The 24-year-old racer overtook Aprilia’s wild card racer, Lorenzo Salvadori, from the inside, causing a collision. Salvadori fell before being dragged along with his motorbike into the gravel.
Finally, Fabio Quartararo had to settle for finishing 15th in the 2023 Austrian MotoGP sprint race with a difference of 22.3 seconds from Francesco Bagnaia, who won. Quartararo initially felt that he deserved to be punished, but he felt otherwise after watching the replay of the incident.
“Before looking at the pictures, I felt I really deserved a long lap penalty. However, looking at the pictures now, I feel I didn’t deserve that penalty,” Quartararo was quoted as saying Autosport.
“However, that is not my job. My job is only to race by giving out 100% of my abilities,” continued the 2021 MotoGP world champion.
“When you have a lot of trouble overtaking, you have to find a way out. It happens. Of course, I was at my limit from start to finish. This is something that can happen, but at least we can have a good pace,” Quarterly add.
