Fábio Pereira will be Marítimo’s new coach, confirming this morning’s online news from DIÁRIO, which named him as Manuel Tulipa’s successor in technical command of Marítimo’s main team. The agreement between the parties is already complete, but the Madeiran coach, who turns 45 today, is still finalizing the termination of his contract with UD Oliveirense, the team he is linked to. The arrival of Marítimo’s new coach is scheduled for this evening, and should be officially presented on Thursday.
However, interestingly, Fábio Pereira has, in his contract with the Oliveira de Azeméis team, a clause that allows him to terminate the contract if the club interested in his competition is Marítimo, so the understanding between the parties involved is practically complete.
Marítimo’s new coach was born in Funchal on December 6, 1978 and was an athlete for the green and red team in the youth team for 8 seasons, playing as a right back, having even been called up to one of Portugal’s youth teams. He later played for regional clubs such as São Vicente, União B, Andorinha, Santacruzense, Canicence and Estrela da Calheta.
As a coach, he started as an assistant to fellow Madeiran coach Bruno Pereira, at Sporting de Braga B, and then spent two seasons at CF União da Madeira. He has been at UD Oliveirense for three seasons, where he won the national title in League 3 and subsequent promotion to League 2.
Madeiran Fábio Pereira was distinguished in October by DIÁRIO at the Madeira Football Gala, having been elected Madeiran coach of the year (II League).
On the occasion he said that “it is always a great pride to be able to come to Madeira and for good reasons, in this case receiving an award for being nominated and voted for by people from Madeira football, it is always gratifying for me and gives me strength to continue the my work and, if possible, be able to be here again next year”.
