Fabio Jakobsen Signs Contract with Team DSM-Firmenich for 2023 Season

Aug 11, 2023 at 11:13 AM Update: 8 minutes ago

Fabio Jakobsen will start working for Team dsm-firmenich after this season. The 26-year-old top sprinter, who is still employed by Soudal Quick-Step, signed a contract with the Dutch cycling team until the end of 2026 on Friday.

“I’m very honored to be part of this team, which I watched as a little boy,” said Jakobsen. “Despite my young age, I have already experienced many highlights, but I am super motivated to make many beautiful memories together with this team.”

Jakobsen’s transfer comes as no surprise. A month ago he already announced that he would leave Soudal Quick-Step. At the time, he was also linked with a move to Team dsm-firmenich. Because cycling transfers may only be announced after August 1, Jakobsen could not confirm that switch at the time.

Jakobsen is in his sixth season with Quick-Step and has grown into a top sprinter with the team. The Dutchman booked his first professional victory in the Belgian cycling race Nokere Koerse in 2018, followed by 42 more victories.

In 2020, Jakobsen was the victim of a heavy fall in the Tour of Poland caused by Dylan Groenewegen. The sprinter had to fight for his life for several days.

Eight months later, Jakobsen made his comeback and not much later he celebrated successes again, including the Vuelta a España. Last year, the Gelderlander won a stage in the Tour de France for the first time. In this year’s Tour he did not win a single stage and stepped down after eleven stages.
