Fabio Jakobsen responds for the first time: “Very grateful that I am still alive” | Tour of Poland

Exactly 2 weeks ago, Fabio Jakobsen made a terrible fall in the Tour of Poland. For a moment there were fears for the life of the Dutch rider, fortunately he can still tell.

“The trauma doctors, the doctors and the nurses at the finish line in Katowice saved my life, I am very grateful to them”, Jakobsen now responds. “I am also very grateful to all the employees of the hospital in Sosnowiec. They gave me the opportunity to stay alive.”

“It was a difficult and dark period,” continues Jakobsen. “I feared for my life. Thanks to the organization and my team, my family was close to me. It has given me strength.”

After a stopover at the hospital in Leiden, Fabio Jakobsen is back home. “Step by step I can start to live more independently”, says the Dutch cycling champion.

“After my severe concussion, I still have to rest a lot. I will have to undergo a few more operations to have my face recover.”

“In this way I want to let everyone know that I am very grateful that I am still alive. All messages and statements of support have given me a lot of strength. Step by step I can slowly look to the future. I will fight to recover”, promises Jakobsen.

“I would especially like to thank Dr. Rafael, my surgeon in Poland, our team doctor Yvan Vanmol, manager Patrick Lefevere who brought my family close to me and Agata Lang and family who took very good care of my family on behalf of the Tour of Poland.”
