Confirmed: Fabinho signs for Saudi Al-Ittihad from Liverpool

Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Fabinho has signed a three-year contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, the two clubs announced Monday.

The 29-year-old joins the Jeddah side for a fee of around €46 million ($51 million). Fabinho will be in his new team with other players who have shone in European football in recent years such as the French Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kanté.

The Brazilian arrived at the Anfield club from Monaco in 2018 and participated in 219 games with the ‘Reds’, winning the Champions League (2019), the Premier League (2020), the FA Cup (2022), or the League Cup and the World Cup. of clubs.

“Today I leave my home. It’s been five years wearing this shirt and always with the greatest honor and happiness possible,” Fabinho wrote on Twitter (renamed ‘X’).

His departure follows that of Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who last week ended his twelve years at the English club to join Saudi Al-Ettifaq, coached by fellow Englishman Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has also seen midfielders Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner leave this pre-season.

But the club made up for those losses in its midfield with the arrivals of Argentine Alexis Mac Allister and Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai.
