Fabián Gianola: “I have nothing to regret because I was always a gentleman”

“If you have to get vaccinated, I’ll get vaccinated,” he says. Fabián Gianola and admits that he is not afraid: “I do not believe in those Machiavellian plans,” says the actor, who spent part of his quarantine accompanied by his son Nicholas, who finally decided to go live alone. “He started having a girlfriend and he needed his place. Welcome, ”his dad concludes. But the 21-year-old is not the only one who reached out to love during the pandemic. In this interview with Teleshow, Gianola reveals that she is meeting someone. “There is a person who captivates my thoughts”, confesses the artist, who begins in 2021 with a premiere. Beside Claribel medina returns to the stage with a double role: interpreter and director. Black comedy Dangerous relationships can be seen in the theater Regina.

“You go back to the theater.”

—I never left the theater, the pandemic took me away. When they said the theaters were opening, they summoned me for this play that I had already done. I love the text, it is an Italian comedy of black humor that we are going to do together with Claribel Medina and I am lucky to direct. I’m crazy about the project.

“How do you get along with being an actor and a director at the same time?”

“I did it several times.” As an actor I was always a person with the antennas stopped from everything that happened on stage. A light was burning, I realized at the touch. I was always like this. I saw if an actor moved differently, or said something that was not, or something better. Then, the experience of years of experience: next year I turn 40 years of profession, I started at 18.

—It’s a huge journey. Do you remember what was your first important money and what did you spend it on?

-With Boing Boing in the year 98, 99. I paid debts. I had built myself a house and had written four checks to finish paying it: if the theater didn’t go well, I didn’t know how I was going to do it. When they told me: “Fabián, there is a line at the ticket office”, the first days I would take the car and go to the theater to see the queue. They had not opened the box office and there was a line of a block. And I went back to sleep: I regained peace, tranquility. I was very in debt, I had played. He was young, 35 years old and more kamikaze. It was a very nice opportunity that gave me the opportunity to pay for my first house.

Fabián Gianola: “Next year I will celebrate 40 years of profession”

—In 40 years, is there something that you say today: “What a fool! If I hadn’t needed money, I wouldn’t do this ”?

-Yes. We are not going to name because there are many people involved, but There are some things that I regret. Let’s say … no regrets: I know why I did it. My dad died when I was 18 years old, my brother was still in school, my mom was left with a very big depression, from which he never recovered. In fact, nine years later he passed away, both at 58 years old. When my dad died, I started driving a taxi. I started to load the cattle in a refrigerator because I had to pay a debt from their hospitalization that had been in the Italian Hospital. I worked six months, I paid the debt. I worked at the Embassy of Spain. And in the meantime, I was bowling on television.

—You obviously had a lot of desire and a lot of strength, because at 18 you had it very difficult.

-They were very hard years, but I had a joy and a will of steel. I always had a very powerful attitude towards life, and it saved me: it rescued me many times. While driving the taxi I made my balls until, 11 years later, already 29, I got four bowls in Los Welcome (laughs)

“And from there you never stopped again.”

“I never stopped again.” I was going by bus and they began to recognize me: “You are the one Los Welcome “. I was embarrassed, and I would get out and take the one in the back. He came to take three buses to go to Telefe to rehearsal or recording.

“How is it that this character who was born for four bowls ends up staying?”

“It was live fiction.” They asked me for four episodes because the bar was kind of loose and they wanted to lift it. “I need you to make a boy, hippie or gay, in contrast to the old men,” they told me, “I’m going to make him gay.” “Be careful because it is the Benvenuto family, Telefe, on Sunday at noon … Be careful what you are going to do.” The first scene was leaning on the counter bar and enters Guillermo (Francella) and he says: “How are you?” At that time, if you ask me: “Did you prepare it?”, No, I did not prepare it. He was with terrible nerves … I tell him: “What beautiful eyes!”, And he caught him on the fly. That was already promotion of the week. They put a scene for me in a kiosk that he was taking care of and we improvised something. It was also promotion. And they called me from the office Gustavo Yankelevich and they made me a contract.

“It was a very important milestone in your career.”

—Up to a Martín Fierro as a supporting actor, four years of success. Personal success within the success that the program was. Very nice time. Much growth. He was married very recently. When I finish Los Welcome my daughter was born, Camila.

—Both your daughter and your son supported you when the harassment complaints arose. Was family support important to you?

They never had doubts not my children, not my ex-wife, not my family, not my friends, not anyone.

“How are these complaints?” Some were in Justice and others were public.

—Most were media. Those who are in court, I prefer you ask (the lawyer Juan Pablo) Fioribello.

“Is there something about all that that, later on, you think you should have done differently, or in what you feel you could have been wrong?”

“I was always very trusting of people.” I opened the doors to people that I helped a lot and some paid me very badly. I have nothing to regret because I was always a gentleman.

“Did you apologize to someone, be it one of those women or your environment for everything that was happening?”

“I don’t recall apologizing for anything I didn’t do.”

—This year with the issue of Covid and quarantine, at some point we hear you fed up with the confinement, questioning, mentioning that pandemics occur every 10 years.

There is a pandemic every 10 years. HIV, Ebola, swine flu that forced us out of the theater in 2009 too, and now this. That has happened like this. What I said is that thank God it is a pandemic that if it kills 3% of those infected it is quite benevolent. The last serious pandemic was the Spanish fever that left between 50 and 100 million people dead, when the planet had one billion inhabitants. If we have to be guided by that, among the measures that were successful such as quarantine, isolation and science that advances by leaps and bounds, we have a vaccine in 10 months … It is a pandemic that within all … Not counting the cases, please: I don’t mean they are numbers.

“Are you going to get vaccinated when I arrive?”

-Yes. If you have to get vaccinated, I’ll get vaccinated. I have no problem. I am not afraid of those Machiavellian plans. I do not believe in those things.

—In addition to how difficult it was to go through with the coronavirus, it was a year with many losses.

“Many losses.” Diego’s (Maradona) thing was very hard. The Carlin (Calvo) thing hit me a lot. I saw how he struggled to get by when he had his first stroke. I worked with him in 94 and later in 2003, when he had already had the stroke; we did Argentine customs. He drove, learned the lyrics, super professional, always arrived on time. What he fought to stand up, to fight life … I have an anecdote on a tour bus. It was three in the morning, we were sleeping, he got up to go to the bathroom and the mike moved, and it was heard inside the bathroom!pam!, ¡pam! ”. He I had one hand. So I say: “Carlin, are you okay?” “Yes,” he answers. She comes out of the bathroom, looks at me and says: “Now I say, why didn’t Tata take me now?” And he had had only one stroke.

“The second was terrible.”

With the second he was no longer aware of anything. But the first, to move forward the same after having been who he was … A person that no one could hide. Girls, women, big ladies, fell to their knees in the street. And the guys loved him. An angel, a charisma. The second was when he was my age, 10 years ago. I was doing 39 steps in Buenos Aires and he re-released Taxi 1 with Diego Perez, which he had already done with me in 2005 and 2006. I call him, he doesn’t answer, and I call him Diego: “Shit! That everything goes well. I called Carlin but he didn’t answer me ”. “Because he has problems with the letter.” “Well, a lot of shit, I’ll call you later to see how it went.” I do my job, I get in the car and over Bluetooth I say: “And? As was?”. “No, Fabi, everything wrong … They are operating it at the moment.” “What?!” I thought he was screwing me. I lived it very closely.

—In a talk we had a couple of years ago, we talked about politics, the possibility of getting involved, and you told me: “At some point I got closer, I thought I could collaborate, but it’s a very dark mud.” Do you still have that feeling?

I never wanted to have any kind of position or anything. When in 2013 they offered me a bench with the Renovating Front, with Sergio Massa, The first thing I told him was that I didn’t want to enter Congress. I supported from the nominal, from the name and from the plain; I didn’t want a position. It was my only appearance in politics. Never more. A circumstantial moment and a request from a person I trust. Politics is very difficult, but there are always politicians that you believe. Politicians who say “this guy speaks well, what he says convinces me, this guy is serious, he seems transparent.” One has the need to trust their representatives.

Fabián Gianola: “There is a person who captivates my thoughts, but I don’t know her”

– Do you want to fall in love in 2021?

-Yes, I really want to fall in love.

“Get on something!” I see you looking like you’re doing something …

There is a person who captivates my thoughts, but I do not know her (laughs)

“A virtual link.” Tell me everything.

“I can’t tell you more because there is no more than that.” What am I going to tell you? It is someone I am meeting right now. It came from a live Instagram, someone made a comment and we started a chat (laughs).

– Is it in Argentina or abroad? Is there a meeting planned?

-Abroad. It’s hard. The border is closed, everything is closed.
