FAA Issues Special Bulletin (SAIB 2023-15) Regarding Fake Replacement Parts from AOG Technics: Airworthiness Alert

The American regulator issued special bulletin regarding airworthiness (SAIB 2023-15) which expands on the original advice regarding unauthorized replacement parts distributed by AOG Technics.

While there was originally talk of fake parts for certain engines, most notably the CFM International CFM56, the new bulletin indicates that the fake replacement parts are not limited to the previously mentioned engines. The directive does not specify which other types of engines could be affected by the scandal surrounding fake spare parts.

Operators should check all parts that may have passed through AOG Technics in any part of their distribution. The regulator reminds that it is the operator’s responsibility to ensure that only parts that meet FAA specifications and are in a condition that ensures flight safety are in the aircraft.

Should an airline check find parts that cannot be demonstrably original, they must be replaced with original parts immediately before the next flight. Such a case must be reported to the regulator within 24 hours at the latest.

As they stated The New York Post, AOG Technics listed its headquarters in the small seaside town of Howe, with an office in London. As it was found during the investigation, instead of an office, it was only a mailbox, for which the company paid 150 dollars/month.

Ray Kwong presents himself on LinkedIn as the Sales Director of AOG Technics. He states that he previously worked for Mitsubishi and Nissan. However, both manufacturers deny that a person of that name ever worked for them in the past. His photo is a “stock” photo from a photo gallery company’s website and therefore appears as an illustration on various websites.

Account Manager AOG Technics is Martina Spencer according to LinkedIn. Her photo was found on Amazon among photos of women wearing glasses.

It is therefore obvious that not only the supplied spare parts but the entire AOG Technics organization were “fake”.

The danger arising from fake spare parts cannot be underestimated, as among the supplied engine parts were, for example, turbine blades. A blade defect in flight can have catastrophic consequences. (Photo: nypost.com, BNN Breaking)
