After a quarter-final that will soon be forgotten, it became clear shortly after the final whistle that United will face Championship team Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-finals. This means that Chelsea and Manchester City will settle for the other final place.
The last time United met Coventry in the FA Cup context was in 1987 in the fourth round. Then Coventry won 1-0 at Old Trafford.
Coventry’s coach is Mark Robins, a name that may sound familiar to some. Robins featured sparingly during Fergie’s early years at United but did all the supporters a huge favor in the FA Cup in 1990 when he scored the only goal against Nottingham Forest, a win said to have ¤dded Ferguson’s job. As is well known, United went on and won the entire tournament.
