Formula 1 is thinking about different scenarios regarding when races can take place. These options include extending the season and organizing multiple races on a single track.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Silverstone general manager Stuart Pringle said the British circuit is ready to do whatever is necessary to help F1, including organizing more than one race. “All I want to say to Formula 1 is that we are ready to work with them in whatever way they see fit for the championship”said Mr. Pringle.
“Most of the teams are a stone’s throw from the circuit, so operationally it would be quite simple (to organize several races). We have a fixed infrastructure, the staff can go home and sleep in their own bed overnight. If this is how we can help, we would be very happy to do so. We will do whatever we are asked “, insists Mr. Pringle.
When asked if he was considering the second upside down race on the 5,891m track, Mr. Pringle replied that this could not be ruled out. “It is not such a stupid idea. We are not allowed to race the other way, but we are living in an extraordinary time, and I suppose extraordinary decisions will be made. Nothing is excluded, but let’s still see how the next four weeks will go.
Several major sporting events scheduled for the summer have already been canceled, including the Wimbledon tennis championship, which was scheduled to end just a week before the British Grand Prix.
