In qualifying in Istanbul, the English driver of Mercedes set the fastest time, but he will start 11th for the engine change. The red in the second row with the Monegasque, then Gasly on Alonso and Perez
–
Lewis Hamilton has the best time in qualifying for the Turkish GP. An anomalous pole, of course, because the Englishman will start tomorrow in 11th position due to the penalty due to the change of the thermal engine. So the first row will be composed of Valtteri Bottas with the second Mercedes and Max Verstappen with Red Bull, who absolutely must take advantage of Hamilton’s penalty to recover important points in the standings. However, the Dutchman will also have to beware of Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari, which has the fourth fastest time and therefore will start third in front of Pierre Gasly’s Alpha Tauri. Followed by Alonso, Perez, Norris, Stroll and Tsunoda.

What a brawl in Q1
—
A lot of excitement in Q1, with the dry track but the black clouds ready to discharge water in a few minutes. Everyone immediately went out on slick tires to set the time immediately and there was no shortage of spinning, as the track is still wet and not completely dry compared to the morning. In addition, the rain began to fall lightly but not excessively, and so everyone had to push all the time to avoid the risk of being eliminated. At the end the best time for Hamilton ahead of Verstappen, Gasly and Leclerc. Ferrari shines to seize the moment with Sainz, who made enough time to put out Ricciardo’s McLaren, direct rival in the constructors’ championship. Also eliminated Latifi, Giovinazzi, Raikkonen and Mazepin.

Q2, Sainz traina Leclerc
—
There was no shortage of excitement in Q2, with Leclerc’s Ferrari entering the 10, also thanks to the wake that Sainz offered him in the central sector, probably sent out precisely for the purpose. At the end the best time of the Mercedes of Hamilton and Bottas ahead of Verstappen and Gasly. Eliminated Vettel, Ocon, Russell, Schumacher and Sainz, who starting last has practically not played the session.
