Italian GP: little public at Monza, too many retractions, many delays
The controversy began to mount in recent days when the organizers announced the numbers on the tickets sold. Few in relation to the capacity already limited and imposed by Government for 50% of the capacity of the racetrack. Which, however, was only able to open the stands of the stands, the seats, with prices too high for those who have always frequented the meadows in Monza, closed this year. In the other GPs the capacity was 100% or 70%.
The result? The president of the Monza racetrack, Giuseppe Radaelli he is angry with the delays: “The late opening of sales has led several companies to desert this appointment”. The mayor of Monza, Dario Allevi, added the dose: “I would have liked the government measures to arrive a few weeks before the end of July”.
F1, Briatore attacks the government: “Crazy!”
And if the CEO of Liberty Media, Stefano Domenicali he attributes the lack of presence to the lack of effect Ferrari, there are those who like Flavio Briatore, as usual, he does not send them to say. “I came to Monza for 20 years and the stands were always full, yes Ferrari influences but people who love engines come anyway” said the former team manager who won the title with Benetton di Schumacher and Renault’s Alonso. Briatore then attacks the government for inaction:
“I seem to relive the story of the closure of discos, in Italy we always stand out, a madness. I am convinced that Monza would have been full if they had allowed entry to all those in possession of the green pass, as they should have done with discos. They allowed the crowds in the squares during the European football with hundreds of people screaming in the face and kissing. F1 has done a lot to fight covid with its bubbles. An Italian GP so subdued makes no sense ”.
Briatore had harsh words even against the organizers for the expensive tickets: “People have to eat, maybe sleep there in Monza, they need cheaper tickets but I repeat: they had to open first and foremost as in the other GPs”.
