Charles Leclerc ended up in the crosshairs of critics after the unfortunate weekend of Montecarlo: the pilot of the Ferrari failed to participate in the Monaco GP, his home race, after compromising his car with the crash in qualifying on Saturday.
One mistake too many for the driver from the Principality, not new to these topics in hot moments: “Charles can get some sensational laps, but he is continuing to be prone to blunders. And this one of Monte Carlo really hurts ”, are the words of Martin Brundle, former driver and current Sky Sports commentator.
“Leclerc often publicly reproaches himself, and therefore I suspect that he wanted to participate in the celebrations under the podium for the second place in Carlos Sainz just to remember not to make the same mistake again. Because instead of Carlos or even the winner Verstappen he could have been there ”, continued the former British driver.
“It will have been difficult to bear the idea of not being able to race, especially thinking that he may no longer have the opportunity to win the Grand Prix by having such a great chance“.
On the same line the former world champion Jacques Villeneuve: “Charles he can only blame himself. Saturday went to the wall. You can’t be sad for him“.
