F1: Fernando Alonso has extended his contract with Aston Martin until 2026

The terse statement published on Aston Martin’s official website only mentions that the stable has extended the contract with the Spaniard for several years. It was later revealed that Alonso had signed a new contract until 2026, which means that the driver, who was on the podium eight times last year, will continue to drive in Formula 1 beyond the age of 45.

“A lot has been said and written about my future in F1 in recent months, but now I am here to announce that I will stay with the team for many more years. At the beginning of the year, I said to myself, first I have to decide if I want to continue racing, then I will sit down with the team to discuss how they feel about it. Since I arrived fifteen months ago, I feel very much at home, and in addition, we have achieved a lot together in the past period,” quoted the stable’s website. Alonso.

At a similar age, the champion of 1962 and 1968, Graham Hill (aged 45 and 11 months), started his last race, the 1975 Brazilian Grand Prix.
