F1 2022, how single-seaters change: photos, rules and news

At Silverstone, Formula 1 unveils a full-size model of the single-seaters that will be protagonists starting from the 2022 season. Here are the first details

While on the track Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton fight Grand Prix after Grand Prix in a thrilling head-to-head for the 2021 world title, Formula 1 is thinking about the future, spreading the guidelines of the regulations that will come into force next season and unveiling a full-size model of a “basic” single-seater that the manufacturers will use starting from the 2022 season, not before having studied the technical regulations in detail and found some quirks to develop the permitted areas. Indeed, to say the whole F1 more than thinking about the future, the future communicates it: it does so at Silverstone, on the occasion of the first Sprint Race in history. The new guidelines aim to create more spectacular racing, with more overtaking and less difficulty following the car in front. Revised aerodynamics with improvements in airflow, reinforced car sides and a limited chance of car components detaching during contact, with a simpler wing design. Added to this are the 18-inch wheels (from 13 until the 2021 season, the one currently underway).
There are two main themes mentioned in the Silverstone presentation: in addition to the aforementioned search for spectacularization, the other main topic is sustainability. Both from an environmental and financial point of view: on the one hand the search for the lowest possible emissions and on the other the economic aspect, with a financial regulation.

“A substantial change – begins Jean Todt. We will introduce cars capable of fighting each other on the track and creating exciting battles between the drivers”. The CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, supports Todt’s thought: “We will create conditions to have more intense races and more overtaking”. And Ross Brawn adds: “The 2022 cars are the symbol of the embodiment of a new regulation and a clear change with the past. Seeing the car here is something striking, a fantastic project, with these 18-inch wheels that give even more fascination with cars “.
Mario Isola, Pirelli motorsport manager, also spoke at the official presentation: “We have studied an ad hoc product that could work in harmony with what will be the new F1 rules”.
