F-35 fighter
–
Up to 8 fighter jets from the Netherlands will be stationed in Bulgaria from April 1.
This was decided by the government on Tuesday, according to a document published in the government information system. The decision was not announced by the government’s press service.
The Netherlands planned to send F-35 fighters to Bulgaria, although the decision of the Council of Ministers does not specify what exactly the planes will be.
There will also be 200 Dutch servicemen in Bulgaria to service the planes.
However, the F-35s will not be limited to the peacetime Air Policing mission. This time, the Dutch fighters will be part of NATO’s overall air and missile defense under the NATO IAMD mission. The new mission is defensive and includes all possible actions to meet hostilities against NATO countries.
Dutch pilots will be able to carry out missions to occupy an air duty zone, intercept air targets and visually identify, interrogate, escort and intervene.
For now, our government does not allow them to shoot at violators.
The stay in Bulgaria of the Spanish Eurofighter fighter jets, which are currently on an airspace protection mission, has been extended until April 15.
