Daruvala wins in race 2 in Sakhir, but the German from Prema wins the second trophy of his career after the 2018 F.3 European Championship. Next year his debut in F1 with Haas
Mick Schumacher won the F.2 championship. The German, son of the seven-time F1 world champion, did it right in the last heat of the season, which ended in Bahrain in 18th place in the race won by Jehan Daruvala. But thanks to the 10th place of rival Callum Ilott, the Prema driver maintained the top of the standings and won the second important trophy of his career, after the F.3 European Championship he won in 2018. The best way to present himself to the debut in F1 next year, when he will race with Haas together with Nikita Mazepin.

The championship victory came not without some worries. Mick had a good points lead before this race 2 and was also starting from the front row. But the race was not a walk to the finish. Daruvala, Shwartzman and Ilott immediately made his life difficult and mid-race, thanks to excessive braking, he ruined the tires and was forced to a scary pit stop. It meant having the certainty of leaving the points area, leaving a sensational recovery window for Ilott. “I no longer had the tires – commented Mick at the end – luckily it went well anyway”. The Ferrari Driver Academy mate, in fact, had made the maximum effort at the start of the race to overtake him and went into crisis with the tires, finishing only 10th in the race which was a Carlin double with the victory of Daruvala ahead of the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda .

Talk Mick

At the end, the German was very excited: “Great race – Mick said immediately after the race – I owe everything to my team. Winning like this was difficult, I was aggressive in braking and compromised the tire, Ilott had a great pace, I tried to keep mine, but it was impossible, I was afraid to come back, but we decided to do it and it went well. I am excited, it will take a few days to realize that I am champion, I am proud to have raced with this team from which I have learned a lot. I have always pushed, improving with the team and this was the reason why we won ”.
