Ezio Vendrame, dead of the poet of Calcium

Have you noticed this paradox? The more football is presented as a show, the less it produces artists. The last one is currently being held in a Paraguayan prison. When it was just a game, a gritty sport played on grated fields for the sole enjoyment of hard working classes, football was full of extraordinary players. Some of them were extravagant characters as well, since the era still allowed some to choose between ambition and fantasy.

One detail is infallible to these players: they survive through anecdotes and not records or statistics. The emotions they provoke infuse well after their death. This is the case with Ezio Vendrame, who died on April 4 from cancer at the age of 72, Italy, who no longer counts his deaths, is crying today. Calcio regarded him as his George Best, more for his bushy beard, his grinning smile and his success with women than his footballing talents. Best was Golden Ball, winner of the European Cup, ten years at Manchester United; Vendrame, an offensive or attacking midfielder, spent most of his time in Serie B or C, played only three games for Naples and scored only one Serie A goal.
