Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) – It should be easier for extremist civil servants to be fired from public service. According to information from the “Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung” (WAZ, Monday edition), the Interior Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Herbert Reul (CDU) is campaigning for this.

“In the case of crimes that greatly undermine basic trust in the state, officials must be able to be removed from service without further delay. This is clearly the case with hate speech,” Reul told the newspaper.

An amendment to the law on the statute of civil servants had already been discussed at the conference of interior ministers in Munich. In future, a conviction for incitement to hatred should automatically result in expulsion from the public service.

Furthermore, Reul would like the statute of limitations to be relaxed in cases of hate speech by officials. The Civil Service Status Act is a federal law.
