Extremely rare purple diamond sold for the largest amount at the Sotheby’s auction house

An extremely rare purple diamond found in Russia has been sold at the Sotheby’s auction house for the largest amount in history – 26.6 million US dollars – found in Russia, CNN reports.

At an auction held in Geneva on Wednesday, November 11, an “extremely rare” purple diamond was sold for a record $ 24.4 million, or $ 26.6 million.

The 14.83-carat stone, dubbed “The Spirit of the Rose”, has become the most expensive purple-pink diamond ever sold at auction, reports Sotheby’s.

The sale took place more than three years after the gem was discovered in a mine in northeastern Russia. The name of the name was borrowed from the 1911 Russian ballet production “Le Specter de la rose”, and it was cut from an even larger rough diamond, which was found in 2017 by the mining company “Alrosa”.
