Jan 19, 2024 at 11:14 PM Update: 17 minutes ago

In the north of Spain, about six hundred motorists got into trouble on Friday due to heavy snow. The army had to be involved to free them. Some vehicles had been stuck for hours.

The problems arose on the N122 between the towns of Soria and Ágreda. Army units stationed in the nearby city of Zaragoza had to spring into action to free the stranded motorists.

The north of Spain is suffering from the consequences of storm Juan. In combination with a temperature of 13 degrees below zero in Soria, this resulted in heavy snow showers. Zaragoza airport was therefore closed for some time. The snowfall also caused closed roads and nuisance in the neighboring region of Aragon.

Catalonia and the Extremadura region suffered greatly from extreme rainfall. A weather alert was issued for thirteen Spanish regions on Friday. The weather will also be unsettled on Saturday.
