Extreme Food Menu: Couple Saves Money by Eating Animal Carcasses

Bandung – The couple Eric Joseph Lewis and Jess Russel from Maryland, United States have an extreme food menu. They eat carcasses of animals that have died in accidents, and cook wild plants.

Quoted from detikFood, this was done by the lovebirds because of the rising food ingredients in America. As a result, Jess Eric and Jess had to downsize.

As a result, the extreme food menu was carried out. In a week they only spend around USD 50 (Rp 766,200), for shopping at the supermarket. This figure is fairly cheap for grocery shopping in America.

This is how Eric and Jess take advantage of road kills, or animal carcasses that are usually hit by cars and are often found on the side of the road. Apart from that, for their vegetables, they turned to looking for wild plants that could be cooked.

“I eat wild food every day, and the amount eaten is quite a lot. We also eat meat from animal carcasses,” explained Eric.

According to Eric, if people can overcome their fear of dead animals, then people will be freer to live this life.

This 41-year-old man explained that compared to letting the animal carcasses rot. It is better to use the bones for broth, or for dog food, until the skin is used for clothing.

“For example, one deer can weigh up to 27.2 kg – 45.3 kg. There are 60,000 calories, and it’s a shame to miss it,” said Eric.

Eric is also interested in studying wild plants that are safe to eat. One of them is eating nettle leaves, which have many health benefits, such as overcoming arthritis and lowering blood pressure.

Not to forget the goumi berries and wild blackberries which he often processes into smoothies. As for vegetables, he prefers eating wild mushrooms because he is interested in studying mushrooms.

He is also used to fishing to catch fish, such as catfish which is his daily diet.

“We only spend around USD 50 (Rp 766,200) per week, between me and Jess. We buy that money from sweet drinks to cakes. If we buy what we need, such as kombucha, yogurt to rice, it is only USD 20 (Rp 306,000) just a week,” concluded Eric.
