So terrible but amazing!

Earth, a place where various natural events have and continue to influence our lives. Nature is so extraordinary with all the phenomena that occur on planet Earth. Not infrequently, these natural events have a significant impact on the life of living things on Earth. Through this article, we will discuss five extraordinary natural events that affect our existence on this planet. Let’s explore together and live the majesty of life that is so amazing.
1. Toba Supervolcano Eruption: when the earth was almost extinct!

The first natural event was the Toba Supervolcano eruption which occurred about 74,000 years ago in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Reported from the journal Quaternary International, this cataclysmic eruption is considered to be one of the largest and most destructive in Earth’s history. When this volcano erupted, volcanic dust and ash blanketed the sky, creating a year without a summer for decades. Plants die and animals go extinct, causing ecosystems to crumble.
However, behind the destruction, the Toba eruption left an extraordinary legacy. Many scientists believe that this eruption caused human “genetic savings”. The human population at that time probably dwindled drastically, and only a few people managed to survive. These people later became the ancestors of all of us. So, paradoxically, the event that nearly wiped out humanity is also at the root of our current genetic diversity.

2. The 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake: a tsunami that shook the hearts of humanity

On December 26, 2004, an earthquake measuring 9.1 on the Richter scale occurred off the coast of Sumatra. Quoted from the book Eruptions that Shook the World This earthquake caused a large shift in the seabed and triggered a powerful tsunami that hit the coastal areas around the Indian Ocean. This tsunami claimed a very large number of lives, destroyed coastal areas, and left deep wounds for many people.
Although this tragedy leaves deep sorrow, its impact also encourages humanity to unite and help others. Aid came from around the world to assist with recovery and reconstruction. Many aid organizations and united states provide great care and assistance. This earthquake and tsunami have taught us about the importance of unity and mutual cooperation in the midst of difficulties. Through this deep crisis, we learn to be kinder and more resilient.

Ecuador, a country known for its natural beauty, also faces threats from natural events. One of the most striking is the active Tungurahua volcano. This volcanic activity can bring two sides of life for the people around it. On the one hand, volcanic eruptions create fertile and profitable soil for agriculture. This nutrient-rich soil allows agriculture to thrive and supports local people’s livelihoods.
However, on the other hand, the threat from the Tungurahua eruption lurks at any time. On July 14, 2006, Tungurahua experienced its most violent eruption since 1999. At around 6:00 a.m., the volcano spewed a 15 mile stream of ash, steam, and rock. The lava flows rapidly into the Pacific Ocean and can be seen clearly in satellite photos. Reported from the journal Reviews of Geophysics The massive eruption in 2006 caused mass evacuations and huge economic losses. Despite this real threat, the people around Mount Tungurahua have learned to coexist with nature. They find ways to mitigate risks and protect themselves from the dangers of volcanic eruptions.
4. El Nino and La Nina phenomena: major influences on weather and climate

Reported from the journal Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, El Nino and La Nina are two climate events associated with changes in sea surface temperature in the Pacific Ocean. The El Nino phenomenon causes sea temperatures to rise, while La Nina causes sea temperatures to fall. These changes affect global weather patterns, including precipitation, temperature, and seasons.
El Niño is often associated with natural disasters such as severe droughts, floods and stronger storms. On the other hand, La Nina can lead to more intense monsoons and deadly tropical storms. The impact of these events on agriculture, water availability and natural disasters has made us even more aware of the importance of monitoring and mitigating climate-related risks.
