In the afternoon, Nikos Hardalias convenes an emergency meeting with the village deputy regional governors of Civil Protection and officials involved in the construction of projects, in order to assess the dynamics of the existing flood protection of Attica.
At the same time, the regional governor of Attica requests to proceed at a faster pace and in cooperation with the government, the clarification of responsibilities and the division of responsibilities of each body, in the issues of dealing with natural phenomena.
In addition, and in view of the upcoming changes provided for by the new “Charter” of the Self-Government, Mr. Hardalias, emphasizes the need for the regions to acquire enhanced competences in dealing with natural phenomena. “After all, for the necessary projects, increased funding is needed, a fact that the government knows very well, and already the financial staff is soon completing the expected planning for the allocation of funds,” he notes.
It is recalled that in the morning the regional governor performed an autopsy on the Kainourgio stream of the Municipality of Marathon, where he inspected the cleaning work, as he has also attended similar work on other streams in Attica, as well as in Kifissos. Finally, immediate priority has been given to the streams and tributaries of the areas of the Municipalities of Penteli, Chalandrio and Vrilissi, which were affected by the August fire
