Extraordinary measures on the Bulgarian borders because of a terrible plague! – 2024-08-04 14:14:58

Disinfection for cars will be introduced at all border points from tomorrow because of the complicated epidemic situation mainly in Greece and Romania, as well as because of the many registered diseases of plague in small ruminants, announced the director of the BABH, Dr. Svetlozar Patarinski.

Our country has diplomatically informed the neighboring countries about the measure. Disinfection will be free as long as diplomatic coordination is in progress.

First, disinfection was introduced along the border with Turkey. The first week was also free due to technical issues. Money is already being collected, said the director of the Food Agency.

Today, the Executive Director of the BABH and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Deyan Stratev, attended a meeting of the Regional Epizootic Commission in Kardzhali, convened urgently because of a registered outbreak of sheep plague in the Greek Yasmos – 10 km from the border with Bulgaria.

Currently, there is no registered case of the disease in our country, but our country has already introduced preventive measures at the national level.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture reported that during the previous 2 months, there were no imports of live animals from Romania and Greece.

At the beginning of June, there were two registered imports of animals to slaughterhouses in the country. However, they were before outbreaks of the disease were established in Greece.

Plague on small ruminants brings great economic losses to farmers, since when it is established, sick and contact animals are destroyed. Owners are compensated. The disease is not dangerous for humans.
