A Bulgarian naval pilot was injured in a fall of at least 3 meters after a maneuver to leave the Port of Varna of the Italian destroyer “Luigi Durand De La Penne”.
The incident happened when the pilot trap collapsed, and in all probability the Italian sailors are responsible, Maritime.bg reported.
The Bulgarian fell on board the pilot boat, hitting his colleague trying to help him. The injured men are in stable condition.
The visit of the Italian ship in Varna is part of the curriculum of Italian cadets from the Naval Academy in Livorno.
This is another incident in recent years with a NATO ship. The dominant country in the alliance, the United States, has already acknowledged that there are serious shortcomings in the training of its sailors.
