The first 12 cases of omicron have been confirmed in Bulgaria. This was just announced by Associate Professor Angel Kunchev.
11 of them are from Sofia. One is from the Sofia region. Only one of the positives returned from the UK two days ago. For the rest there are no data that they have traveled abroad.
There are people of all ages, including a child between 10 and 15 years old. 7 have not been vaccinated and five have been vaccinated but given 9 months ago.
None of those infected have a booster vaccine, although it is not a guarantee, said Kunchev, chief sanitary inspector.
So far, none of those infected with omicron is in serious condition, people are being treated at home.
“This is not unexpected, as Omicron is already widespread in the Balkans, sooner or later it should have appeared in Bulgaria. The most worrying thing is that the number of cases doubles every 2-3 days.
According to Kunchev, the hospitals are already trained and will last, but companies must have one thing in mind. Employers must be prepared that at some point they may be deprived of 20-30 percent of staff, “warned Assoc. Prof. Kunchev.
He acknowledged that it was too early to talk about measures. Europe itself has reacted quite differently to the Omicron epidemic, from austerity to liberal measures, Kunchev said.
