After a careful start to the match, the Košice team put up pressure in the power play in the 9th minute, but the defense of the guests led by promptly Williams thwarted several shooting attempts. Subsequently, the guests got a numerous advantage and Žitný ended his cooperation with Galamboš and Kukuč – 0: 1. Michalovce also defended themselves against the second power play of the “steelmakers” and after the first third they held the tightest lead.
During the 22nd minute, the fans chanted the name of Dušan Pašek once again reminded the former striker, who wore the jersey with the number 22 in Košice. In the 23rd minute, Galamboš could have punished the home team’s mistake, but his chance was missed by the prompt goalkeeper Košarišťan. The guests skillfully defended the close lead, they did not allow the Košice players much during the game with a balanced number of players and they did not let themselves be surprised even in the weakening in the 30th minute. Galamboš’s pass to Lačný, who did not direct the puck to the Košice goal, did not end with a goal either.
The third third was mainly about the Košice residents’ efforts to settle. However, for a long time they came across an organized defense of the opponent, who also threatened from breaks. The guests transferred a power play to the overtime, but the defense of Košice managed the situation. Keränen decided on the victory of the guests, when in a spectacular individual action he managed with the defender Deyl and the goalkeeper Košarišťan – 1: 2.
