Tegucigalpa – At the discretion of the lawyer Carlos ChajturAfter the trial of former President Juan Orlando Hernández ends, there will be an avalanche of extradition requests against Honduran figures.
He added that the new requests will include former officials, civil and other figures.
The criminal lawyer said that the trial will begin on February 5 as scheduled and will not be delayed any further, despite the fact that it has been postponed on several occasions.
He did not predict a positive future for the former president and considered that the debate will end in a conviction in the Southern District of New York.
Hernández is accused of three drug trafficking crimes, and is also accused of introducing 500 tons of cocaine into the United States.
Chajtur asserted that in a month and a half there will also be a conviction in this case.
“This will only be the beginning, after the trial is over there will be another number of extradition requests. “Accessors, former officials and other people will be asked,” he said.
Former President Hernández was extradited to the United States in April 2022 and is accused of several crimes of drug activity. His brother, Juan Antonio Hernández, was sentenced in 2019 to life imprisonment, plus 30 years in prison, always for drug trafficking crimes. JS
