Extra security measures are in place in at least five prisons because Ridouan Taghi’s eldest son has been arrested. It is the first time that prisons have simultaneously tightened measures for different detainees, sources say Het Parool.
It was announced on Monday that Faissal Taghi was arrested by the police in Dubai at the end of July. 22-year-old Taghi was arrested at the request of the Dutch Public Prosecution Service (OM). He is suspected of participating in his father’s criminal organization.
The arrest of Faissal Taghi could “probably” cause unrest among some prisoners, quotes Het Parool from a report by the National Police Unit. The detectives advise to keep an extra eye on these prisoners.
At least five prisons have introduced these and other measures, according to the newspaper. The detainees in question are also allowed to leave their cells less, make fewer calls and receive fewer visitors.
Faissal Taghi is still in custody. It is not clear when he will be brought to the Netherlands. In July, the Senate approved a treaty with the United Arab Emirates, which should make it easier to extradite criminals. The Public Prosecution Service said earlier this week that it has confidence in the extradition procedure.
