Extra round in Eredivisie canceled, clubs think about training NOW

The game round in early April in the Eredivisie and the Kitchen Champion Division will also be canceled due to the outbreak of the corona virus, the cabinet decided on Sunday.

Ministers Bruno Bruins (Medical Care & Sports) and Arie Slob (Primary and Secondary Education and Media) announced at a press conference in The Hague that measures taken earlier this week will be extended.

This means that sports events that attract more than 100 people will be banned until April 6 instead of March 31. In the near future, the cabinet will examine whether that period should be postponed even further.

Bruins and Slob also announced on Sunday that all sports clubs should be closed for the time being, but it is still unclear whether this means that the clubs from the Eredivisie and Kitchen Champion Division may no longer train.

‘Ajax and Feyenoord will just train on Monday’

Ajax and Feyenoord are reportedly just planning to train on Monday. The Amsterdammers already reported that the youth academy will remain closed in the coming weeks, so that the youth teams will not train.

The KNVB must now find new dates for round 27, 28 and 29 in the Eredivisie and round 30, 31, 32 and 33 in the Kitchen Champion Division. Next week, among others, the Classic between Feyenoord and Ajax was on the program in the Eredivisie.

KNVB’s general director Eric Gudde has already stated that the starting point of the association is to allow games to be played with the audience for as long as possible and in principle not to make concessions to the league format.
