One of the world’s best players of all time is putting his shoes on the shelf.
Mikkel Hansen confirms this during a press conference.
– After the summer is a good time to put the shoes on the shelf, says Mikkel Hansen.
Yesterday’s rumors from Danish TV2 were correct. One of the world’s best handball players of all time ends his career after this summer’s Olympics in Paris.
– I think I have come to a place where I can feel that there are other things that drag a little. Therefore, I feel that this summer is exactly the right time to put the shoes on the shelf, says the superstar with tears in his throat.
The 36-year-old has led the Danish national team to Olympic gold, three WC gold and double EC gold. The merit list also includes three awards for the world’s best handball player and four MVP awards in championships.
– I have played with some of the best players in the world. Have had some of the best coaches around and met great people both on and off the field, says Hansen.
– The decision was made some time ago and the feeling afterwards has been really good.
Ends together with Karabatic
Hansen joins Nikola Karabatic when he also retires after this summer’s Olympics. If both players are selected for the respective squads, there is a possibility that the two long-time teammates will end their careers against each other in the final.
