Extra measures: fitness equipment and Cruyff Courts will close as of today

The board of the Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region will take extra measures due to the corona virus. These must start today (Thursday).

For example, from Thursday onwards, there will only be stalls in the region where food is sold. Stalls with ‘non-food’ have to disappear temporarily so that more space is created. “As a result, the other stalls are further apart and visitors can distance themselves more,” says a press release.

Fitness

In addition, public fitness equipment in parks is closed to the public. “These are now places that can damage health, because the devices are not kept clean and because the devices have an attraction for several people at the same time,” the statement says.

The Cruyff Courts and football cages will also soon be off-limits. According to the Commission, these pose a ‘risk for the spread of the coronavirus’.

Sports fields

Although sports fields and parks have officially been closed for several weeks, quite a few Amsterdammers would still use these places in their spare time. ‘Because too many people are often here too
being too close to each other will intensify enforcement in these places, ‘said the Commission.

CCTV surveillance

Finally, camera surveillance can be set up in areas where there are concerns about the ongoing crowds. If necessary, additional measures will be taken at those locations.
