Extra door? It will be 20,000, thank you!

Fiat has many demanding years behind it. It has mainly been due to a lot of back-and-forth on the ownership front. Fiat was long prioritized down, while other brands received a larger share of the development pot in the Fiat Chrysler Group, which was later merged into the giant Stellantis.

The model range has also become thinner and thinner. One bright spot in the whole, has been the retro success 500. But it has also noticed tough competition over time. No wonder, since it hit the market back in 2007.

But last year it was finally ready for a new edition. In terms of design, it is very similar to its predecessor, but here we are talking about a brand new car.

Now 500 have become electric. Here at home, three editions of it are sold. The three-door station wagon accounts for about half of sales. 30 percent choose the car called 3 + 1 and the remaining 20 percent buy the convertible version with folding roof.

Wondering what 3 + 1 means? Yes, you should know that if you read on. The full name of the test car is Fiat 500E La Prima 3 + 1. Starting price: 332,780 kroner.

NB: This is a card test. This means that we have tested this model before. Now we try it in the convertible version. You can find a more thorough test of the Fiat 500 here:

The extra door opens backwards, popularly (or perhaps unpopularly) called a suicide door.

What is new?

When a car is only 3.63 meters long, it is very difficult to fit more than two doors. Again, getting in and out of the back seat can be quite tricky. But here Fiat has the solution for those who are bothered by such things. They have conjured up an extra “half” door, behind the right front door.

It does not do much when not in use, but clearly helps with flexibility. However, it is not free. The extra door lightens you up for 20,000 kroner.

Simple and quite minimalist interior - not at all without charm.

Simple and quite minimalist interior – not at all without charm.

How does it work?

First you open the right front door, then you squeeze a handle – and suddenly the small door opens backwards. This makes access to the back seat much easier, than just through the front door.

The opening does not get huge and you quickly cling a little with the seat belt to the front seat. But it will definitely be easier to get in and out of the back seat, especially if you push the front seat a little forward.

Worth the money? Well, it probably depends on how much you use the back seat. A little classic diet / benefit, that is.

And here in Broom we naturally take on the important task of making the case more visible. If you plan to have the car for five years and on average go in and out of the back seat once every single day, the door costs you just under 11 kroner per time. If you increase the use to double, the price drops accordingly. Or if you only use the back seat once a month: Then the price will be a solid 333 kroner per time.

By the way, it is not really that simple. Of course, you must also take into account that the loss of value can be reduced with this edition, versus 500 without an extra door. So here you have something to think about!

The world's smallest hat shelf, the luggage compartment swallows away 185 liters.

The world’s smallest hat shelf, the luggage compartment swallows away 185 liters.

Although the car is tiny, the space is quite usable. Fiat has done a good job here, it is actually possible to go on a trip with four adults. The luggage compartment holds 185 liters. It’s not very much, but the rear seat can be folded down 50/50. It helps the times you are going to have with larger items.

Apart from door number three, the car is identical to the 500 station wagon. The battery pack is 42 kWt. The official consumption of electricity is stated at 14.4 kWt per 100 kilometers and you can do that with fairly good driving in summer. That means range of 321 kilometers.

With 118 horsepower, this is not a sports car, but it is nimble and fast in the beginning. 0-100 km / h runs in 9 seconds blank.

The 500 is also super-easy to drive. Length just over 3.6 meters and wheels in the corners of the car, gives an incredibly short turning radius. The car is a find in narrow city streets. Here you can also squeeze it into parking hatches others do not dare to try at once.

You can choose between three driving programs: Normal means full power with moderate regeneration. Range is still full effect, but with extra focus on regeneration, here one-pedal driving is possible. In Sherpa mode, the effect is throttled. The car runs at a maximum of 80 km / h, air conditioning and seat heating are deactivated. A good crisis solution the times you are anxious to reach the next charger.

This is what those who already drive a Fiat 500 think about their car:

The car for you if?

You are actually going to use the back seat.

Not the car for you if?

You think 20,000 kroner is too much for half a door.

The owners believe

I Brooms bilguide, the Norwegian owners themselves can tell about their cars. Much like a Tripadvisor for a car. So far we have received over 10,000 reviews!

You can also tell about your car: click here – it’s done fast.

It’s inside 14 reviews of the Fiat 500 – and the owners give 7.7 out of 10 on average.

The Fiat 500E convertible is a real charm. And even though convertible sales in Norway are very limited, we will see quite a few of these on our roads eventually.

Fiat 500 has become an electric car, it is of course not stupid on the Norwegian market.
