Previously, some leaders and members of the Chiro in Machelen tested positive for corona. A member of a playground operation in Machelen and a staff member of a local catering business have now also turned out to be infected. The municipality of Zulte is reacting quickly and is taking extra measures.
“The advantage is that in a smaller municipality you immediately know where the source of infection is and so you can also act quickly”, says mayor Simon Lagrange (Open Zulte). “The infections are almost exclusively situated in the district of Machelen, so we are going to pause social activities there for a while.”
A few associations in the Machelen district, including various sports clubs, have to temporarily stop their operation. Closing the catering industry is not an issue for the time being. “We do ask them to be extra careful and to raise awareness even more”, the mayor emphasizes. The measures apply until Sunday, after which an evaluation will follow.
