Extinction Rebellion Protests Norwegian Oil Policy Outside Hotel

SANDEFJORD / OSLO (Dagbladet): Stinking has been placed outside the hotel’s main entrance because “Norwegian oil policy stinks of death”, writes Extinction Rebellion in a press release.

A theater group has also dressed up as uniformed police and informs all participants that they will now commit an offense – environmental crime according to §112 of the constitution.

The Norwegian Petroleum Association’s oil seminar has now been canceled until further notice, and all participants have left the venue. Dagbladet’s reporter on the spot reports chaotic scenes outside the hotel.

Energy Minister Terje Aasland (Ap) is already inside the hotel, the ministry confirms to Dagbladet. He is scheduled to speak in an hour’s time.

– We lead the way and give courage and strength to the masses, says activist Mads Faste Liang Nilsen to Dagbladet.

– Can you scare people unnecessarily with these methods?

– The cause you are fighting for is much scarier than those who have dressed up, says Nilsen.

The activists warn that they will campaign for the rest of the day and tomorrow.

– Handing out tens of new oil licenses in 2024 is irresponsible, criminal and deadly. The controversial climate summit COP 28 declared a month ago that the world must move away from fossil fuels, says spokesperson Jonas Kittelsen in the press release.

Seminar participants are asked to move away from the area.

– We apologize for the inconvenience caused by blocked access to today’s conference. Protesters have blocked all entrances, and the organizer and hotel are working on a solution to let you in as soon as possible, writes communications officer Irene Snellingen in a message to the participants.

– We recommend that you move away from the area, back in your own car or another suitable place where you can keep warm until further notice, she writes further.
