Extinction Rebellion demonstration: – Blocked intersections. Chained

At 18.00 on Friday night, a dozen protesters from Extinction Rebellion blocked the intersection Hausmanns gate / Torggata in central Oslo.

A dozen people are sitting in the roadway around a truck, and chained to each other. About ten people sat under the truck in question, and chained themselves both to each other and to the truck.

Police blocked off Hausmanns gate for traffic. Public transport, which usually runs through the street, was redirected, Ruter informs Dagbladet.

At 19.24, the police started arresting people. On direct photos from the place, you could see that the police carried away several activists.

The Swede chained himself

At the intersection itself, there was a good atmosphere among the activists. They danced and they played music.

Under the truck sat a Swedish man who wanted to be identified as Rob Wood. The man came to Oslo from Sweden, to participate in the action.

– We are sitting here to inform young people and to change public opinion about the climate situation. Even if we stop burning fossil fuels, the globe will heat up by 1.5 to 2 degrees, and then the fires and the terrible things we see today will only continue, Wood told Dagbladet.

He had his arm in a black metal tube. At the other end of the tube was another person’s hand. In order to loosen the two people who were sitting with their hands in each pipe, Wood claimed that the police had to use a special cutter.

– It will take a long time to get it off, Wood told Dagbladet.

– Afraid of the future

He further said that he is not afraid of being injured if, or when, the police cut the metal pipe.

– I’m not really afraid of anything except the future, and it’s thanks to the fear I’m here today.

– Isn’t it a little bad done to the people of Oslo who use public transport by blocking the street in this way?

– We do not try to stop local traffic, and we do not try to stop traffic so that the poor do not arrive. If it becomes an emergency trap, we can let ambulances pass. If there are any Tesla cars that have to turn around, it does not matter to us, Wood said.
