Extinction Rebellion announces a new blockade of the A12. On Saturday, February 3, climate activists want to march through The Hague to move to the tunnel at the Utrechtsebaan and then block it. The movement wants to once again campaign against the government’s fossil support.

On October 10, a motion was adopted in the House of Representatives in which the outgoing cabinet was asked to draw up scenarios for the phasing out of fossil subsidies. According to XR, these scenarios should have been developed before January, but that has not yet happened. A bill against two fossil subsidies was also rejected by the Senate in December.

For these reasons, Extinction Rebellion believes that “politics is backtracking”. Politics would thus “continue to fuel the climate crisis with 39.7 to 46.4 billion euros in fossil subsidies per year.”

In 2023, the action group blocked the highway in The Hague dozens of times in protest against fossil subsidies.
