This London-born ecological movement has a dozen activists active in Saint-Étienne. On 28 October they undertook phase 1 “Solidarity De-energization” of the national campaign “It’s not Versailles here”.
Extinction Rebellion is an international environmental social movement that advocates the use of non-violent civil disobedience to influence governments to take action to avoid turning points in the climate system, biodiversity loss and the risk of social and ecological collapse.
In Saint-Étienne, activists have just carried out an educational action aimed at companies that keep their signs illuminated at nightfall. Equipped with poles to turn off the switches on the windows, they sensitized dozens of shopkeepers in the city center.
“We launched into SAINT-ETIENNE in the countryside IT’S NOT VERSAILLE HERE with a first action on Friday 28 October for PHASE 1 “Solidarity Shutdown” !! “they say on their Facebook page.
According to them, “41 shop windows were entitled to one or more posters, 11 signs were turned off, 9 panels were entitled to their posters or banners, 2 were neutralized«.
“It’s not Versailles here”denounces the fact that in the face of the threat of an energy shortage, the government has launched a major communication campaign urging the population to take small steps to save energy, refusing to regulate light advertising, even publishing a new decree practically identical to the legislation already in force on the matter.
