Extinction Rebellion activists arrested at Amsterdam Damrak | Inland

Four activists were arrested for local peace-breaking in the late afternoon as they were demonstrating in a shop. Two other protesters were arrested for destruction. They sprayed paint on storefronts. The suspects have been transferred to the police station.

With Sunday’s action, Extinction Rebellion says it draws attention to the fate of the Uyghurs in China, an Islamic minority group, who are exploited in labor camps. “The clothing industry is guilty of taking Uyghur forced labor,” said the action group.

Earlier this week, the police intervened in a blockade on the Zuidas:

After a demonstration on the Museumplein, the activists went into town dancing on Saturday. The demonstrators had permission from the municipality to protest until 2 p.m. on the Museumplein, but then they reported dancing, wearing masks, first in front of the Stopera and then on the Blauwbrug in the center of the city.

Prohibited blockage

On Friday, some 330 activists blocked an intersection on the Zuidas. The police took them off the road after hours of operation. The action group was allowed to demonstrate by the municipality, but road or building blockades are prohibited. They must also adhere to the corona measures. They were allowed to protest four hours a day on Museumplein this weekend.
