TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS.- The Ministry of Health (Sesal) announced that through the Health Regulation Agency (Arsa) it was decided to extend the expiration period of the covid-19 vaccine.
Through a statement, Sesal said that once Arsa reviewed all the required documentation, the extension of the useful life of the vaccines against the virus that are in the country from 18 to 24 months from the date was authorized. manufacturing, thus extending the useful life to March 2024 of the vaccines that expired in September.
According to data from the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI), as of July 19, a total of 19,340,747 covid vaccines had been purchased in the country, of which 17,069,315 have been applied between first and second doses, as well as boosters.
According to the data, it is established that there are around 2.2 million doses that have not yet been applied to the Honduran population.
Health indicated that the provisions have been made to guarantee the vaccines that are required according to the existing gaps for the different target groups.
Starting in September, 1.2 million doses of the bivalent vaccine and more than 270,000 of the monovalent vaccine will be received, which will serve to cover the expected demand for the rest of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024.
