Extended Winter 2023 Vaccination Campaign: Influenza, Covid-19, and Pneumococcus

Asunción, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Health reported that the Winter 2023 Campaign, for vaccination against influenza, covid-19 and pneumococcus, will be extended until the availability of doses is exhausted.

The campaign began on April 10 to ensure immunity against respiratory diseases before the arrival of the winter months. Originally it was extended until this Friday, July 14, but it will continue due to the availability of doses.

At this time there is active circulation of the influenza virus, so the Ministry of Health urges vaccination in all authorized posts.

According to data from the General Directorate of Health Surveillance, since April there were 132 hospitalized patients due to influenza, of which 90% were not vaccinated. 15% of the patients required intensive care and 5% died.

The vaccines are directed especially at risk groups: children from 6 to 35 months of age and adults over 60 years of age; as well as health workers, pregnant women, postpartum women and people with risk factors.

The doses against influenza correspond to the quadrivalent vaccine and against covid-19 to the bivalent. Both are updated within the regular scheme for their application once a year. The pneumococcal vaccine, on the other hand, is aimed at people over 60 years of age who have not received this dose in the last five years.
