Extended Vacation Hours for Rapid COVID-19 Testing at Joseph Walker Williams Rec Center

  • Rapid tests available 7 AM to 6 PM. M. At 4:30 p. M. This week, including Christmas Eve on December 24; next week from Monday to Friday, 12/27/12/31, New Years Eve

Starting today, the City of Detroit will extend the hours at its COVID-19 testing site Joseph Walker Williams Rec Center (8431 Rosa Parks Boulevard) so that Detroiters can get tested before gathering for their holiday celebrations. The Center will be open Monday through Friday this week from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. M. At 4:30 p. M., Including Christmas Eve, and next week, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. M. At 4:30 p. M., From December 27 to December 31, including New Year’s Eve.

Detroit residents will receive results via text message within an hour. Testing is available by appointment only, for people who live or work in the city of Detroit, by calling 313-230-0505.

“We are expanding the hours at the Joseph Walker Williams test site during the holidays and increasing our supply of rapid test kits to help Detroiters stay safe during the holidays,” said Public Health Director Denise Fair Razo . “I urge everyone to get tested before meeting, whether they have been vaccinated or not, especially if they plan to celebrate with someone who may be at risk of developing serious complications from COVID-19.”

The Detroit Department of Health recommends the following to stay safe from COVID-19:

  • All eligible individuals (ages 5 and older) must be vaccinated and receive a booster dose if needed. The first, second, and booster doses are available at all locations (walk-ins accepted).   • Observe COVID-19 safety protocols, including social distancing, wearing a mask in large indoor gatherings with people who may not be vaccinated, hand washing

The Detroit Department of Health is planning vaccination events targeted especially for school-age children, including a superhero-themed vaccination event on Wednesday, December 29, XX, in both pediatric settings (100 Mack and NWAC), and schools in partnership with Detroit Public District school community.
