Extended Rainfall Expected in Alps and Southern Switzerland, Risk of Flooding and Landslides

The rain has come to stay a little longer. In the south and in the central and eastern Alps, “enormous amounts of rain can still be expected” until Monday evening, according to the weather forecast from SRF-“Meteo”. There is a risk of flooding, landslides and debris flows.

During the night it will continue to rain, especially in eastern Switzerland. The temperatures are dropping on Monday then to 11 to 13 degrees, the snow line falls to 2000 to 2500 meters above sea level.

In Ticino and Engadine it usually continues to rain heavily, and thunderstorms are also possible. In the Lower Engadine and Münstertal, the rainfall is lower and dry phases are most likely.

SRF “Meteo” also predicts continued rain in many places in northern and north-western Switzerland until Monday evening. Dry phases are most likely to be expected in the western midlands and in the Jura.

Am Tuesday damp air builds up on the north side of the Alps. The day will be overcast here, the rain will continue to be frequent, but mostly not very heavy. Relaxation is also setting in south of the Alps: in central and southern Ticino there is a breather from the rain, at times it even gets sunny. On the other hand, rain is still to be expected, especially in the Engadin and Münstertal.

First on Wednesday the humid air is then gradually displaced by a high. North of the Alps it will only get wet for a short time, and the temperatures will also rise to 17 to 20 degrees. In Ticino, Wednesday will be sunny and 22 degrees warm.
