Extended Cooperation between German-Turkish Institute and Technoseum: Promoting STEM Education and Diversity

The German-Turkish Institute for Work and Education (DTI) has been working with the Technoseum in the fields of work, migration and education for a long time. In 2021, for example, both of them cooperated at the large state exhibition “Work & Migration. Stories from here” as well as at the ceremony to mark the 60th anniversary of the recruitment agreement between Germany and Turkey. In addition, school classes came to the Technoseum for a fishbowl event, which was also attended by cabaret artist Fatih Cevikkollu and YouTuber Saliha “Sally” Özcan.

“In the future, both Mannheim institutions will join forces and have agreed on extensive cooperation,” the DTI now announces. Both signed a declaration of intent in the Technoseum. Joint actions should be continued and expanded, especially in STEM education. MINT stands for mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology. Jointly organized network meetings, training initiatives and applications for funding are being considered.

“Our institutions stand for the topic of diversity in terms of their basic orientation, because we both want to reach a large number of people with different cultural experiences,” emphasizes Technoseum Director Andreas Gundelwein. That’s why he’s pleased “that we have a strong and well-connected partner in the DTI to give even more young people access to scientific and technical education”.

The CEO of the DTI, Mustafa Baklan, is also “extremely pleased” about the extended cooperation with the Technoseum and emphasizes in particular the connection through the state exhibition “Work & Migration”, at which personal memorabilia from his company Suntat were also shown.

Franz Egle, Executive Director of the DTI, hopes that the cooperation will provide “a sustainable, joint impulse to get schoolchildren with a migration background more enthusiastic about bottleneck and MINT professions and thus to bring the dual training more into the focus of young people”. br
