Exposure to persistent water shortages

Amboitsiri (also) in ras-le-bol!

There is enough. There has been a lack of water in the Amboitsiry area for several months. Consumer utilities have not been properly powered for far too long, to the extent that they are angering the residents of this area in the fifth arrondissement of Antananarivo. On Thursday afternoon, the people of Amboitsiry demonstrated in front of one of the main fountains in this area, loudly shouting their tiredness while pointing flags and posters with violent messages sent to Jirama. “This is beyond bearable limits!” The faucets have been hopelessly dry in our home for almost nine months now, and several blocks away, there was a little water running before for two or three hours at night. In the last few months, there has not been a single drop of rain, during the day or during the night. said this resident of Amboitsiry, struggling to contain her anger about the situation. “We have shown great patience during this time, despite the impact of this situation, including the mental, physical and financial burden.”. Consumers have to resort to the services of water fetchers and the famous yellow cans to draw water from standpipes in nearby neighborhoods.

On Thursday evening, shortly after the start of the demonstration, the police arrived at the scene and the demonstrators were dispersed with tear gas grenades. Around 8:30 p.m., a tanker truck was sent to the scene to try to calm the situation. An emergency solution that will not satisfy angry users, who want a permanent solution to their problem. Yesterday, banners and posters appeared again, specifying that consumers “need water and not police officers or EMMOREG”!

Water scarcity in Amboditsiry is far from an isolated issue. The problem of the supply of drinking water in Antananarivo, which is known, tends to spread and become more intense. Ambohipo, among others, has been suffering from it for over a year.
