Draghi government used EU mechanism to put pressure on lab that racked up delivery delays
—Italy has blocked the export to Australia of 250,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured in Italy. The government intends to protest against the delays in delivery from the British laboratory.
Italy has recorded more than 18,600 new daily cases, on average, last week, and 286 deaths, while Australia has only a handful of cases and no deaths Le Figaro rating.
Minister in charge of vaccine logistics, Agnès Pannier-Runacher greeted Friday, at the microphone of Europe 1, the blocking by Rome of an export of doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Australia, when this laboratory has not been able to respect the contract concluded with the EU.
Speaking of the export of 250,000 doses, the Secretary of State for European Affairs, Clément Beaune, declared on RTL “If we feel that it can penalize us, we block, we keep them. This is what Italy did. I believe in this case that she did well».
In Australia, Prime Minister Scott Morrison adopted a conciliatory tone: “In Italy, people are dying at the rate of 300 a day. So I can understand the high level of concern that exists in Italy and in many countries in Europe» (…) «They are in a crisis situation. This is not the case in Australia»
