EXPO. In Reims the comic “Sapiens” enters the museum

An exhibition event is dedicated to the best-selling cartoon on the origins of man at the Saint-Remi museum. A dialogue between the ninth art and anthropology, free from 1 January 2023.

Since 1 December 2022, the Saint-Remi museum in Reims has been hosting the “Sapiens” exhibition. As the name suggests, it is dedicated to the fate of our glorious ancestor, from the “cognitive revolution” (about -70,000 years ago) to the Neolithic era (beginning of sedentarization). An original exhibition, because it stages the dialogue between two disciplines that rarely meet: comics and anthropology!

The exhibition is free for everyone during the month of January

Indeed, sapiens it is first of all a very successful comic, a worldwide success translated into about fifty countries. The adaptation in image of the stellar book by the historian Yuval Noah Harari, orchestrated by Albin Michel editions (in collaboration with Noah Harari’s Israeli company), put into text by screenwriter David Vandermeulen. The creator of the project is a Rémois, Daniel Casanave, who is also a set designer, and therefore an expert in the art of exhibitions and museographic installations. “For this event we have selected dozens of pieces (archaeological, ed)some exhumed from reserves, which could be in correspondence with the drawings presented”says the artist who is not yet sixty and is constantly bubbling with creativity.

Casts of skulls lent by the archaeological service of the city of Chartres thus join the images of the faces of our distant ancestors. The exhibition brings together relics of all kinds, drawings, plates, reproductions, enlargements, flints, jewels, weapons, arrows, etc. Of the workshops are organized every week. Furthermore, from January 1st admission will be free for everyone, every day, until the end of the month (and of the exhibition, scheduled until February 1st).
