The expectations of Sebastián Lavandeira, the secretary of San Luis Logística, about the Second Expo Alfalfa are enormous. “The first one was very encouraging, there were more than 400 people and it is aimed at producers. This time we focus on the industrialization and commercialization processes, although it will also have aspects related to production,” the official said. The meeting will be this Thursday and Friday, at the Don Hugo experimental field, located 8 kilometers north of Villa Mercedes.
“We must remember that this activity arose as an alternative to deal with the water imbalance in the Morro Basin, three years ago, when the Government of the Province invested in machinery to be able to compact the alfalfa hay and thus export it. This initiative grew every year, we started with a thousand tons and now we have reached 12,000,” said Lavandeira.
The sample will have alfalfa as the protagonist, in addition the organizers assure that it will be dynamic, open and with free admission, although for reasons of space they ask to register in advance on the San Luis Logística website, through the link of the Expo Alfalfa.
It will be a meeting to make contact with professionals from different fields. They will talk about “A market for alfalfa”, by the agribusiness specialist Juan Vasquetto, and “Effects of the pandemic on the logistics chain”, by Ezequiel García Corado. In addition, Martín Aguirrezabala, from Alfazal, will speak about the “Evolution of foreign trade in Argentina”; while Paul Sepúlveda, from the firm TS Swiss Innovation SPA, will speak on “Fertilization and new technologies”.
Alfredo Abboud will also present on “Alfalfa foreign trade news”, INTA technicians Ariel Odorizzi and Daniel Basigalup will present on “Alfalfa Genetic Improvement”, Gustavo Pardo will provide aspects on the “Applied Technological Platform”, Mjail Abdelahad will give ” Remote sensing techniques: rates versus yields” and Carlos Seggiaro will refer to the “Challenges and opportunities of alfalfa production in Argentina”. Julio Iñon Díaz, from the firm Agro GM SA, a representative of Massey Ferguson, will speak about the haymaking line that the multinational has dedicated to agricultural machinery for making high-nutrition animal fodder. Diego Costa, from Alfalfas WL, from the Agvance group, will train producers and technicians on the management and genetics needed to produce quality alfalfa, in quantity.
Another interesting activity for producers will be the presentation of Laura Guzmán, from INTA, together with Alejandro Vergés, from Alfazal, who studied the “Economic impact on the production of meat and milk due to different qualities of hay. Local tests on live animals”.
