An explosive robbery took place in Amsterdam early this morning. The heavy explosions caused havoc. It is unclear whether any money was stolen.
The burglary was reported to the emergency services just after 4:30 am. A press photographer says that neighboring residents were startled by three loud bangs. The ATM in the Osdorp district is next to a supermarket, with apartments above it.
The explosion shattered several windows:

The ATM has been blown out of the facade and debris is littering the street. The police have cordoned off the scene and are investigating. It is not known whether any arrests have been made.
Compared to a number of years ago, hardly any explosive raids are committed in the Netherlands. In 2019, 71 were committed, last year there were nine, according to the Association of Dutch Banks. One reason for this is that most ATMs are closed at night these days.
The problem has moved to Germany. Last year, more than 450 burglaries were committed there. There are proportionately many more ATMs in the neighboring country than in the Netherlands. They are also often accessible 24 hours a day. Eight Dutch people were recently arrested on suspicion of bombings in Germany.
