The German police are investigating the case, because the explosive attack was committed on the German part of the Nieuwstraat. That street runs exactly across the border between Kerkrade and the German town of Herzogenrath. Last year there were already multiple thuds in Herzogenrath, according to reports in German media.
According to witnesses, the perpetrators fled to the Netherlands on a scooter. No suspects have been arrested yet.
